The Auschwitz girl, is actually Eva Geiringer, who later became Eva Schloss. Like many other, she suffered with the Second World War, just because she and her family were jewish.
Eva never thought about writing her life story, but one thing led to another, and before she realized it, she was standing in front of a full room, speaking about her story. She talked about the time before arriving at Auschwitz, her time there, and what happened after.
After the war started, nothing in Eva’s life became easier. She had to grow up in a very short time and learn to value the small things in life. What she never thought would happen was that the war would leave the deepest mark on her and her family. As she herself explains, it was very difficult to deal with everthing that happened and with what was happening inside herself. Eva felt and expressed what many people experienced after the war: abandonment, fear and uncertainty.
This is a book that you need to be prepared for because of what you will find. Although Eva is an adult womam when she tells her story, most of what she describes happened when she was still a child. No child should have to go through or even imagine such experiences.

Eva nunca tinha pensado em falar ou escrever sobre a sua história de vida, mas uma coisa levou à outra. Quando deu por si estava em frente a uma sala cheia a contar a sua história de vida. Como tudo foi até chegar a Auschwitz, durante e após.
Após o começo da guerra, nada da vida de Eva foi fácil. Foi obrigada a crescer em pouco tempo e aprender a dar valor às pequenas coisas. O que nunca pensou foi que a guerra deixasse nela e na sua família uma marca tão grande. Como a própria explica, foi muito difícil lidar com tudo o que tinha passado e o que se passava dentro dela própria. Eva sentiu e expressou aquilo que muitos outros sentiram após a guerra, o abandono, o medo e a incerteza.
Este é mais um livro que têm de ir preparados para o que vão encontrar. Embora agora Eva seja uma adulta, grande parte do que nos conta é ainda ela criança. Nenhuma criança devia passar, ou sequer imaginar o que ela passou.
Brief description of the book’s author
Eva Schloss was born in 1929 in Vienna. After war, she became a teacher and later opened an antique shop. In 1900, she became co-founder of Anne Frank Institute. Since then, she played a fundamental role as a public speaker. She gave lectures on schools and prisions around of world. Her lectures focused on raising awareness about the dangers of prejudice and intolerance toward difference. Because of her important work in the community, in 2012 she was awarded the Order of the British Empire. Eva died very recently, on 3 january of this year, at the age of 96.
Eva Schloss nasceu em 1929 em Viena. Após a guerra tornou-se professora e mais tarde abriu uma loja de antiguidades. Em 1990, foi cofundadora do Instituto de Anne Frank. Desde aí adquiriu um papel fundamental como oradora. Fez palestras em escolas e prisões, um pouco por todo o mundo. As suas palestras tinham como foco alertar para os perigos do preconceito e da intolerância. Exatamente por este seu papel em 2012, foi galardoada com a Ordem do Império Britânico. Faleceu muito recentemente, a 3 de janeiro deste ano, com 96 anos.
