October was a very difficult month as early on my dog fell ill. So, you know, real life and all. That’s why - and I really dislike doing this - I’m combining October and November in one post and it’s already the middle of December even (and yes I’m being generous here).

What I read

In October I read My Year of Rest and Relaxation, by Ottessa Moshfegh - already wrote about it, it was disappointing -, Torto Arado by Itamar Vieira Júnior (maybe this year’s favourite), Natures Mortes by Zidrou and Oriol, and the new Astérix because of course - it’s Astérix in Lusitania.

In November I read Los Abismos by Pilar Quintana (for a book club session that sadly got postponed and I couldn’t make it on the new date), the fourth and last volume of Le Château des animaux, Le Sang du roi, Agora e na hora da nossa morte by Susana Moreira Marques and Trois, by Valérie Perrin (the first time I read this very popular author).

What I got

So apart from Amadora BD books, I got part II of Stephen King’s The Dome (Portuguese edition), Léonie Bischoff’s graphic novel biography of Anaïs Nin, De onde vem este cansaço? by Portuguese author Nelson Nunes, The Skull by Jon Klassen, Flash Point by Imai Arata, Daniel Keyes’ Flowers For Algernon for my work’s book club, the Portuguese edition of I Am Rebel, by Ross Montgomery (I love middle grade books), some lovely Fernando Pessoa editions from the publisher Shantarin - O Sábio Árabe which I’d never heard of, and the Spanish edition Libro del Desasosiego, which I’ve never read even in Portuguese -, and two very recent books from two Portuguese authors: Coisas Ruins, by João Zamith, and Os Periquitos Somos Nós, by my old friend Alex Couto.

Other things

Super long two months - first my dog was ill, then I was - still am - so I’m trying to catch up here as I’d love to be writing more and am really willing to find a community here. Stay tuned!!

I’m also building a reading challenge for 2026 to, once again, keep with my podcast, as I recently posted:

I also went to Bilbao in the beginning of the month and want to write a bit about that here, as when I was blogging I used to write about all the libraries and literary places I’d visit.
